The Q2 Solution
Turn, attach, tear: one carer, hands free
Repositioning a dependent patient is the single most injury-prone task in aged care. It normally takes two carers, and when only one is available it either does not happen on schedule or somebody hurts their back doing it alone. The Q2 Solution is built to remove that trade-off.
The device works on three movements: turn, attach, tear. The patient is turned, the extended Velcro support arm is attached to the far bed rail to hold them on their side, and the carer then has both hands free to clean, change and inspect skin. When the task is done the arm tears away and the pad is removed like any underpad.
The support arms run 76 inches and are rated to hold a 300 pound patient. Underneath, the pad itself is a working absorbent product, a breathable non-woven top layer over a 2000cc absorbency core and a leakproof bottom layer, so it does the job of an underpad rather than being a handling aid you then have to layer over one.
It is used both ways: solo, where the arm substitutes for the second carer, and with a partner, where it frees the second person to work rather than hold. In the manufacturer's own user survey, 98% of respondents said it assisted them in turning a patient, 73% said it saved them time, and 69% reported less physical fatigue.
