We took the wholesaler out of the middle

Disposable consumables are a strange category. A nursing home can spend more on underpads and bibs across a year than on almost any other single line item, and yet the buying decision usually gets made once and then never revisited. The order goes to whichever wholesaler was there first, and it renews quietly for a decade.

The problem with that is not the wholesaler. It is the number of hands the product passes through before it reaches the store room. A pad made in a factory in China typically moves through an exporter, an importer and a national distributor before a facility buys it, and each of those steps is a margin.

We buy from the factory floor and hold stock here. That is the whole model. It means our pricing has one margin in it instead of three, and it means when you need a size that is not standard, the conversation is with someone who can actually have it made rather than someone reading a catalogue.

Our manufacturing partner has been producing disposable medical supplies since 1997 across a 20,000 square metre plant running 26 production lines. They hold ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 certification, with CE and FDA registration on the applicable product lines, and they make their own PE film and non-woven fabric rather than buying it in, which is why we can quote unusual specifications without a six-week detour.
